A vacation in the UAE is widely associated with Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The Middle-Eastern country is a union of seven emirates, including the two said cities. The other emirates are Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. When we visited the UAE in March 2022, we added Fujairah to our itinerary and it was one of the best decisions we made as travel enthusiasts.

From beaches, and skyscrapers, to the majestic Hajjar Mountains, Lebanese restaurants, and several trekking options, Fujairah is one hell of a city. It is slow-paced when compared to the likes of Dubai or Abu Dhabi. One of its latest developments is near Umbrella beach, where a seafront complex is coming up with restaurants, coffee shops, food trucks, and more. You should definitely dedicate an evening to chilling at Umbrella beach.

One of our favourites things to do in Fujairah was exploring the Fujairah Fort, a 16th-century castle. Apart from the history and culture, it also offers a panoramic view of the Hajjar Mountains and the city. There is no entry fee charged to enter the fort.

An attraction that we missed but you shouldn’t is the Fujairah Port. It is the second-largest bunkering hub in the world after Singapore. It is a multipurpose port positioned strategically on the east coast of the UAE.

Dubai to Fujairah: How to reach

Fujairah does have an international airport, but it mostly operates cargo traffic, unlike UAE’s biggies like Dubai and Abu Dhabi International Airports.

While a car is the easiest mode of transport, it is also the costliest option. Watch the video below to know how we traveled from Dubai to Fujairah on a budget:

Fujairah’s weather is a tad different from the rest of the UAE. It experiences rainfall in the winter months and the precipitation is higher than the other emirates. It is partially because of the mountains around the Emirate and partly because the winds are easterly transporting with them rain clouds off the warm Indian Ocean.

Overall, the Fujairah weather is mostly warm the majority of the year. The best time to visit Fujairah is between December and March as these months are generally the coolest, with daytime temperatures averaging around 25 °C (77 °F) and rarely going beyond 30 °C (86 °F).

Fujairah offers plenty of sea-facing accommodations, with the InterContinental Resort being one of the most popular hotels in the Emirate and is pretty away from the city centre. We had opted for another five-star property Concorde Hotel. We were on the 14th floor and our views included the Hajjar Mountains and the stunning Sheikh Zayed Mosque.

Our hotel was bang on the main road, along with other amazing properties such as Novotel, which was opposite Concorde.
