Harsil is arguably still a hidden jewel of Uttarakhand offering peace, and a serene, and highly picturesque environment in the lap of the Himalayas. Harsil is also a paradise for adventure lovers as there are many treks and biking expeditions available in that region.
Situated on the bank of River Bhagirathi, in the Garhwal region, Harsil is a cantonment area and falls on the way to a popular pilgrimage area, Gangotri. Since Gangotri can get very crowded, you may choose to take your accommodation in Harsil, which is just 25kms from the famous Gangotri Temple.
Where to stay in Harsil?
When we travelled to Harsil in the month of September, we found a beautiful accommodation, which made our trip even more special.
Why pick this stay in Harsil?
If you are looking to be connected closely with nature, this is your place. You wake up by the soulful chirping of the birds and the sound of the river flowing just behind your tent and you have your morning tea by looking at the snow-capped Himalayas. It is a reasonable option for travellers looking to camp in Harsil.
It is called a campsite because of the tents, otherwise, they provide services like any other hotel. The tents come with an attached washroom and have basic amenities. More importantly, the tent was very clean. Their home-cooked food was delicious. They offered us a package with breakfast and dinner included. The warm hospitality and excellent services made out stay more memorable.
If you are an animal lover, you’ll love this stay even more because it is surrounded by sheep, goats, and adorable Himalayan Sheepdogs (Bhotia dogs). To book this stay, Get in touch!
How to reach this stay in Harsil?
Our accommodation in Harsil was located around 220 km from Dehradun, 268 km from Haridwar, and 196 km from Mussoorie. While there are buses available from Dehradun and Haridwar (to Uttarkashi and cab/shared taxi from here), the most comfortable way to reach Harsil is by car. There are shared taxis available from the said three cities. Since we were four people, booking a private cab made more sense. (Get in touch for cab bookings)
When is the best time to visit Harsil?
You can travel to Harsil throughout the year; even the snowfall months do not stop Harsil’s tourism. With summer vacations coming up, you can choose to travel to Harsil to beat the heat. The weather is pleasant in the afternoons, while the evenings and nights can get cold. So, carry light woollen. The temperature at night in April-May can go as low as -1°.
